Crossing the Atlantic Ocean

When there are blue waves, endless sky, clouds moving slowly across the horizon, and there is water in every direction – you know your truly in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It has been about two weeks since we left the Canary Islands behind, and this view is our daily bread. At first, I thought it would feel strange or maybe even scary to be so far away from land. Instead, it feels exciting – as if we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Every day on board has its own rhythm, and mine starts when I wake up early at 7 o’clock to begin my watch duty. Standing on deck in the morning hours is one of the most peaceful moments of the day. You only hear waves, the air is fresh, and everything glows softly in the morning light. It is in moments like these when I realize how special this journey really is.

Night watch has become one of my favourite times of the day. When the stars fill the night sky and the ocean glitters in the moonlight, it feels like the ship is floating through another world. Once, dolphins accompanied us, and seeing their shapes glowing in the dark water was magical. In those moments, there is no tiredness, no stress – only excitement and pure joy. It is impossible not to smile and be impressed.

Life on the ship is not always easy, but it is never boring. The waves, the wind, and even the smallest tasks keep us busy. Some days, the sea is calm, and the sails wave loudly in the air. Other days, strong winds push us forward, and we feel the power of nature. It is amazing how quickly we have all learned to work together. Everyone knows what to do – pulling ropes, steering the ship, or keeping lookout. Even though we all come from different places, we have become a real crew, depending on each other and sharing every experience. Especially on the Atlantic Ocean, you must trust your shipmates. That is what makes us strong as a group.

Even though we are far away from home, I do not really feel lonely. Of course, I sometimes think about my family and friends, but being surrounded by my shipmates makes it easier. We talk, sing, tell stories, and help each other through every challenge. There is a strong feeling of community here – a kind of friendship that only grows when you share such an extraordinary experience. It is like a new family!

We have also had some funny moments that made us all laugh. Once during lunch, a wave suddenly hit the ship and all our plates started sliding across the table, so everyone shouted and tried to catch their food. These are the little things that make life on board unforgettable and unique.

Out here, the days somewhat blend and time appears differently. On the one hand, time is not important at all – on the other, our day is structured precisely, and everything works on a set schedule! Everything slows down and one day aboard feels like three days on land. It is not normal to wake up to the sound of the waves, the warming sunrise, and the smell of the wind. I love the small moments – a good laugh, a shared snack, a quite sunrise. It is strange: the less we have, the more value the smaller things get.

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean is not just about reaching the other side, it is about everything that happens in between. It is about learning to work together, discovering your own strengths, and realizing how beautiful and powerful nature can be. Every sunrise, every wave, and every shared laugh reminds me why I wanted to be part of this journey.

We still have many miles to go, but I am in no hurry. Out here, between the sky and the sea, life feels complete. Every day is an adventure, and I know that when I will look back on this voyage in the future, I will remember not just the distance we have sailed, but the people, the laughter, and the endless ocean that became our home.
